Debt Consolidation and Finance Brokers in Melbourne

WeL’nd is a Melbourne brokerage, based at Port Melbourne, built around the hard files. Business owners carrying ATO and unsecured debt, and the home loans that sit underneath them.

The kind of streets and businesses WeL'nd works with around Melbourne

This is our home ground

Our office is at 1/3 Westside Avenue, Port Melbourne, which is about as central as a Melbourne business can be without paying CBD rent. It puts us ten minutes from the port, twenty from the eastern professional corridor, and a short run down the freeway to the south-east industrial belt. Most of the businesses we work with are within an hour of that door.

Melbourne's business base is broad enough that no two files look the same. The inner north and inner west are full of small creative firms, agencies, hospitality operators and trades. The eastern suburbs carry professional practices, medical and allied health, and family businesses that have been running for two generations. The south-east and the west carry manufacturing, food processing, freight and the construction industry that services the growth corridors. What connects them is that the owner is usually the person doing the worrying.

The problems that walk through the door

Most of our Melbourne work sits in one of a few shapes. Naming them plainly helps people work out which one they are in.

  • An ATO balance that started as one unpaid BAS and now includes GST, PAYG withholding, income tax and compounding general interest charge
  • A payment plan agreed at a number the business could never actually meet, defaulting and being reset
  • Four or five short-term unsecured facilities taking daily or weekly debits out of the trading account
  • Credit cards and personal loans that were used to keep a business afloat, now sitting on the owner personally
  • A director penalty notice or a garnishee notice, where the clock has already started
  • Equity in a home or an investment property that the owner has not connected to the business problem

The last one is usually the way out. Turning a compounding, non-deductible tax balance into an ordinary secured loan does not make the debt disappear. It changes the shape of it, from something that grows daily into something with a term, a repayment and an end date.

In person, or not, whichever suits you

Being a Melbourne client means you can sit across a table from the broker handling your file. Plenty do. Plenty of others never come in, because a video call with the accountant present and secure document upload gets to the same place with less of your day spent driving.

  1. 01

    The first conversation

Twenty minutes, no documents. What is owed, to whom, and what is pressing hardest. You will get an honest read at the end of it.

  2. 02

    The document list

One request, not five. Bank statements, BAS history, an ATO account print, financials, and identification.

  3. 03

    The structure

We explain what we are proposing and why, including what it costs and what it puts at risk, before anything goes to a lender.

  4. 04

    Settlement and after

We deal with the lender, the solicitors and the payout figures, then stay in the file afterwards.

Melbourne property, and what lenders make of it

Melbourne is not one property market either. Established middle-ring suburbs with long sales histories are the easiest security to place. High-density apartment stock in Southbank, Docklands and parts of the CBD sits under floor-area and postcode policies at several lenders. New estates in the growth corridors can attract more conservative valuations where many similar properties settle at once. Commercial and industrial premises in the south-east and west are frequently used as security by their owner-occupiers, which keeps the family home out of it.

The Melbourne areas we know best

We have written specific pages for the parts of Melbourne we are asked about most, from the inner bayside suburbs around our office through to the eastern professional corridor, the south-east industrial belt and the northern and western growth areas. If your suburb is not listed, ring anyway. The process is the same.

Between them, those pages cover the inner bayside suburbs, the eastern professional corridor, the south-east industrial and growth belt, and the northern and western corridors. Each one is written for the businesses that actually trade there rather than assembled from a template.

We are based in Port Melbourne and work across Australia.

Most of what we do happens by phone, email and video, wherever you are. If you are close by and would rather sit down, the door is at 1/3 Westside Avenue, Port Melbourne.

FAQ

Questions from Melbourne

If yours is not here, ask it. We would rather answer the awkward one early than have you find out later.

Where exactly is WeL’nd based?
1/3 Westside Avenue, Port Melbourne VIC 3207. That is our only office. We work with clients across Victoria and Australia-wide from there.
Can I meet a broker face to face?
Yes. Melbourne clients are welcome at the Port Melbourne office by appointment, and we will meet elsewhere where it genuinely helps. Many clients prefer video, particularly when their accountant is joining.
Do you only work on debt consolidation?
No. Debt and ATO work is the centre of the practice, but we also do home loans, refinancing, first home buyers, investment lending, commercial and development finance, private lending, SMSF loans and car and asset finance.
My business is in Melbourne but my accountant is interstate. Does that matter?
Not at all. Video meetings handle it, and we are happy to work with whoever you already trust rather than pushing you toward someone new.
I have defaults on my credit file. Is it worth calling?
Yes. Defaults and arrears narrow the lender field and affect pricing, but there are lenders on the panel who assess these files properly. We cannot remove anything from your credit file, and we are not a credit repair service.
How do you get paid?
Usually by commission from the lender, and on some commercial or private files by a fee. Whatever applies to your loan is disclosed to you in writing before you proceed.
What if I am not sure consolidation is right for me?
Then say so on the first call. Part of the job is telling people when finance is not the answer. If the business cannot service a new repayment, the right referral is to a registered insolvency practitioner or a restructuring adviser, and we will make it.
